Reading Time: 3 mins
If you’ve seen my post introducing Goebbels the Turkey, then you’ll know I’ve got a little creative writing project going on outside of my focus on the main manuscript. It’s a bit of fun, gets me out of my head and getting easy words on the page pretty much daily and hopefully we can do some good with it down the track and raise some money for charity.
I’ve been writing this since December when it started as a writing prompt and there are 48 posts so far.
I recognize that’s a lot to digest so I figured a quick catch up here might be a good thing for anyone who might be interested.
Of course, you can also always start the story from the beginning at his first post here.
Here are some of the things we have learned about Goebbels so far:
- His friend Bigguns went missing, conspicuously, at the end of November last year.
- He started a weblog and sneaks into the farmhouse and writes on it at night when the farmer and his wife are asleep.
- He learned his English and how to spell from his friend the pig, who also recently passed.
- He is generally a very nice turkey but he is bothered by the attention that a new baby horse is receiving on the farm. Her name is Jasmine but he refers to her as “attention horse”. He does not like attention horse.
- He is obsessed with learning about the world outside his farm via the internet and has learned about Greece, Australia, Canada, vegans and vaccines and believes he would love tzatziki if he were to ever try it.
- He has also learned about his “evil twin” – the “other” Goebbels – and the holocaust.
- He has a twitter account (Update: Deactivated Nov 2024 for all the right reasons) where comments and interactions with his new friends are helping to move his story forward. You should follow him and be a part of the journey!
- The farmer lost his cell phone and Goebbels found it and can now tweet during the day from the privacy of his own shack.
- He is aware that humans eat turkeys but has not yet put two and two together about his own fate and why the farmer has increased the amount of food he is being given. I have a feeling that will come pretty soon and his whole world is about to change.
We are about to wrap up a little storyline over tonight and tomorrow that started on February 1st where Goebbels is dating an Irish girl named Emma via a chat room. In his search to find new friends, pre-Twitter, google gave him a link to something called “Irish dating”.
What started out as harmless banter is turning into a lot of anxiety for him as he is trying to figure out how to be funny and likable.
He might just be a bit smitten.
But he’s not the only one who has their eyes set on Emma, as we are about to find out tonight.
That’s it, that’s Goebbels in a nutshell. I’ll be writing this until November of this year and while I have an idea of how I’d like it to end, his story could be majorly influenced by his internet presence and the friends he meets along the way.
Comments and thoughts always welcome, both here and over in the barnyard.
